CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL DOG

Mrs M. Fox-Shone

Given my recent personal circumstances, this was always going to be a difficult show for me to judge.  However, mum would not have wanted me to stand down from my first Championship Club Show appointment.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind words, cards and flowers at this difficult time, they really did help.

I would also like to thank the committee for organising a lovely day.  It was such an honour and a thrill to be invited to judge my first Breed Club Show.  Thanks also to my stewards who kept things moving so smoothly and lastly but most important to the exhibitors for their support.

I had some lovely dogs and was very pleased with my final line-up and chose 6 for the final cut.  My eventual winner stole my heart on the day, being of lovely breed type and totally stunning on the move.  It was a pleasure to judge with a long time Irish friend Geoffrey
Porter.  We both agreed on the Dog Beauella Radzinski for BIS, the Bitch Montcolly Liccy RBIS, the Minor Puppy Dog Ricksbury Royal Tradition BPIS and the Veteran Dog Ch Daraste Reflection Of Love BVIS.

VETERAN (6, 1Abs)

1.

Lewis’

CH. Daraste Reflection Of Love

Richly marked blenheim Champion looking fabulous today.  Lovely for type, soft expression, presented in lovely gleaming condition.  Strode around the ring like a youngster, moving soundly and freely.  Short-listed in the last 6 for CC. BVIS

2.

Bloomfield’s

Oaklake One More Tri

Lovely tri, full of himself.  So sparkling denying his age.  Lovely size and nicely balanced.  Showed well and beautifully presented.

3.

MINOR PUPPY (20, 7Abs)

1.

Rix & Berry’s

Ricksbury Royal Tradition

Very promising richly marked, well broken blenheim.  Lovely size and well balanced.  Ample bone and coat coming nicely.  Just right for his age.  Loved his type.  Generous head and expressive dark eyes with an air of mischief.  Quite naughty at times but when settled showed his attributes off well and moved well.  Still very much a baby but should finish well and is potentially an exciting youngster to watch for.  I loved his mother, gave her a CC and his father is proving such a wonderful stud dog.  Won this class with ease. BPD, BPIS

2.

Water’s

Maibee Buzz Lightyear(NAF)

Not quite as mature as 1.  Nicely marked tri, good head properties.  Lovely for type.  A very happy boy.  Liked his shape and size.  Moved well when settled.  Another puppy, which should finish well.

3.

French’s

Lirren Let’s Go Golden

PUPPY (11, 1Abs)

1.

Boardman’s

Volney Bonanza

10 month attractive, well balanced, nicely sized Black & Tan.  He is a lovely type and has a nice expression.  Nice soft eye and rich tan.  Excellent topline and moved and showed beautifully.  Well presented and should finish well.

2.

Barnard’s

Toshini Martino

Thought this would be my winner and pushed 1 hard.  Nice type, flashy marked blenheim in lovely coat and condition.  Good for type and a tad shorter coupled than 1.  Shoulders slightly upright which causes him to lose his topline on the move, which lost him the top spot.

3.

Water’s

Maibee Syndney(NAF)

JUNIOR (13, 3Abs)

1.

Rix & Berry’s

Ricksbury Royal Valour

Another top draw exhibit from this kennel.  Richly marked blenheim youngster, which is excellent for balance and shape.  Lovely reach of neck and good topline.  Handsome head and lovely dark expressive eyes.  His head in my opinion still needs a little more time and maturity.  Moved well and has lots of quality.  Should finish well and on another day challenge the best for top honours.  Presented beautifully.

2.

Mordecai’s

Millhill Le Sage

11 month well marked, rich chestnut blenheim.  Slight larger all over than 1.  Perfectly sound, balanced dog which moved effortlessly.  His head is a little heavy for me at the moment, but has lots of time and could fine down a little when he matures.  He excels on the move and was handled expertly as is the norm from this kennel.  A quality dog.

3.

Williams’

YEARLING (11, 2Abs)

1.

Jones’

Timsar Mister Moonlighter

Easy winner in this yearling class.  Cracking blenheim youngster who as the saying goes was “ever-so naughty, but ever-so nice”!  Loved his body shape, ideally sized and nicely balanced.  Although heavily marked this did not detract form his lovely outline, good reach of neck, nice short loin and good spring of rib.  Moved effortlessly with a level topline and correct tail carriage.  His head is dreamy and his best is yet to come.  As a younger dog he went through a “plainer” stage but the essentials were always there and what is more he is still maturing.  A lovely exhibit for overall type and soundness and with a little more maturity will compete for top honours.  RCC

2.

Hawes’

Kersmere Rhapsody

Pretty, glamorous well broken blenheim which was lovely for size and shape.  Shown in good coat and beautifully presented.  Appealing head and eye.  Gentle expression.  Moved well with good topline and correct tail carriage.

3.

Inglis’

Craigowl Wylam

NOVICE (9, 2Abs)

1.

Boardman’s

Volney Gazpacho

Easy winner in this class.  Quality Ruby, which was good for type.  Generous head and soft expression.  Ideally sized and nicely balanced.  Lovely temperament.  Just loses his topline on the move.  Well presented

2.

Towse’s

Miletree Jambo

Smaller richly marked blenheim of nice type.  Typical expression.  Moved well, but there was just not enough of him for me.  Well deserved his placing.

3.

Pagan’s

Sorata Bob Marley

GRADUATE (8, 2Abs)

1.

Levy & Sedgewick’s

Pascavale Alfie JW

Neat little dog of quality.  Appealing head and expression.  Nicely sized of good shape.  Moved soundly and effortlessly.  Presented in lovely shiny coat.  Looked very good on the move.   Just lacks maturity to compete for top honours.

2.

Town’s

Barsac Sadler’s Wells

Pushed 1 hard, but preferred neatness and fluid movement of 1.  Glamorous Tri, nicely marked, adorable temperament.  Handsome head and sparkling expression.  Coat not at its best here today and he was a little unsettled on the move.

3.

Boyd & Carter’s

POSTGRADUATE (10, 1Abs)

Very varied class for type!

1

Levy & Sedgwick’s

Pascavale Jamie JW

Smart blenheim.  Lovely size shown in immaculate condition.  Of nice type and endearing expression.  Moved and showed well.  Just needs more finish to complete the picture.

2

Gilbert’s

Toshini Benito At Charverale

Nice type but slightly longer cast than 1.  Well broken, very glamorous.  Moved and showed well.  Nose pigment slightly off today and a little more attention to presentation required.  A quality dog never-the-less.

SPECIAL MID LIMIT BLENHEIM & TRICOLOUR (10, 1Abs)

A difficult class to judge.

1.

Inglis’

Craigowl Ryton

Won on soundness and fluid movement.  I was surprised how much I like this boy on closer inspection.  Attractive, handsome head which still needs more time.  Lovely dark eye and nice expression.  Heavily coated Tri with rich tan, but the coat was not at its best here today.  Ideally sized, balanced and looked beautiful in profile on the move.  Happy temperament.  Deservedly short-listed in my final 6

2.

Levy & Sedgewick’s

Pascavale Bruce

Tricolour, prettier type and smaller than 1.  Lovely expression and temperament.  Moved ok.  Nicely presented but personally I would have preferred more of him.

3.

SPECIAL MID LIMIT BLACK & TAN AND RUBY (11, 0Abs)

1.

Rogerson’s

Rabymar Apollo

Lovely sized B&T.  Good on the move.  Tan a little dark.  Nicely balanced and showed well.  Kind expression.  Nice full head.  Well presented.

2.

Shinnick’s

Leelyn Kameron

Lovely headed B&T with good expression.  A shade larger cast and not so sound on the move as 1, but a quality exhibit.  Lovely big eyes.  Coat needed a little more attention

3.

LIMIT (10, 0Abs)

Best Class of the Day.

1.

Costello’s

Beauella Radzinski JW

Top class richly marked blenheim dog shown in superb condition and beautiful coat.  Have always admired him and today he pulled out all the stops.  Ideally sized, beautiful make and shape, excellent shoulders, lovely spring of rib, lovely short strong loin and strong hindquarters.  He has a lovely head and tail carriage and keeps a good level topline.  His construction is copybook and he is of classic type.  All male, but with the softest of expressions and soundest temperament.  His movement was fluid, free flowing and absolutely sound.  He excelled on the move and the more he moved, the more he won my heart.  I had no hesitation in awarding him his 2nd CC and with my co-judges full agreement BIS.

CC & BIS

2.

Angell’s

Charwelton Tate JW

Another top class richly marked blenheim boy.  Not the maturity of 1.  He has plenty of time to mature.  Short coupled, good sound movement.  Beautifully presented.  Good head properties with a nice expression.  Will no doubt challenge for top honours.

OPEN (11, 3Abs)

1.

Baker & Park’s

Ch. Keyingham Branwell

What can I say about this top-winning dog?  He is a beautiful example of the breed with a fabulous temperament.  He moved with grace and style and is always beautifully presented.  He is deservedly every inch a Champion and was short-listed in my final 6.

2.

Coaker’s

Titian Puppeteer At Homerbrent JW ShCM

Best wholecolour of the entry.  Beautiful ruby boy of excellent type.  Lovely head, huge, dark round eyes and excellent pigment, loved his expression and type.  Ideal size and nice shape.  Moved well and beautifully presented as one would expect from this kennel.  Unlucky to be up against 1.

SPECIAL OPEN BREED BY EXHIBITOR (5, 1Abs)

1

Bubb’s

Ch. Wandris Entertainer JW

Another top-winning Champion. Suffice to say he is also a beautiful example of the breed with a fabulous temperament.  He is balanced and sound and moved with purpose and style.  Beautifully presented.  He is also every inch a Champion.  Again he was on my short-listed in my final 6, but I preferred the crisper, cleaner and sharper finish of my CC and RCC winners.

2

Rix & Berry’s

Ricksbury Royal Escape

Another top quality exhibit of good shape and make.  Nicely balanced and showed and moved well.

3.
